DIU the unknown island

Diu Island was not on my initial tour. But thanks to Alan, I ended up lost in this wonderful island. Even extending my stay in it a week.

Diu Island is an island off the south coast of the Gujarat Peninsula, separated from the mainland by a tidal stream. It has an area of 40 km² and a population of 44,110 (2001 census).

There is also a national airport, the Diu airport.

CHURCH OF SAINT PAUL

The construction of this church began in 1601. The main façade of the church is perhaps the most elaborate of All Portuguese churches in India. In architectural style, it is Gothic

The Diu Fort, is the fort was built by the Portuguese during their colonial rule of Diu Island. The city of Diu is located west of the fort. The Portuguese ruled this territory from 1537 (the year they took control of the fort and also the Diu city) until 1961.

FORTIM DO MAR

Built just at the mouth of the creek, the Fortim do Mar fortress is a magnificent stone structure in the sea. Approximately one nautical mile from the dam, it also has a lighthouse and a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Sea.

Diu gave me pleasant moments. There the days began to become a very pleasant routine.

It is one of the few places in India where alcohol is allowed. So many people go there on weekends just to drink alcohol. It is a tourist place, but local, not foreigners. I only counted 8 including us.

It is a very special place. Here, you can to contemplate some wonderful sunsets. And some nights you can to touch the stars of the sky with the palm of the hand.

It has fantastic beaches. These beaches are in the island and the nearby towns on the continent. Of course, for nothing have the offer of activities that you can find on the beaches of the West. But although a little outdate have one or another.

In the village there is an ice cream parlour, do not stop passing by that you will surely repeat!

JAISALMER the quiet city

The city of Jaisalmer is located on the top of a yellowish sandy rock and is crowned by the Jaisalmer Fort. Many of the temples and buildings are sculpted with great wealth. The city is located in the Thar desert and has a population of around 78,000 inhabitants. Nicknamed “The Golden City” because of the golden color that yellow sand gives to the city and its surroundings.

Jaisalmer, I was surprised, it’s a magical city, for its environment and its people. It’s very arid, because you have the desert next to it. From here you can hire excursions to the desert.

JAISALMER FORT

The visit to Fort Jaisalmer transports you to other times and fascinates you by its construction.

It is believed to be one of the few “living strongholds” in the world, since almost a quarter of the population of the old city still resides within the fortress. The enormous walls of yellow sandstone of the fortress are of a color during the day, and are transformed when the sun sets, thus camouflaging the fortress in the yellow desert. For this reason it is also known as Sonar Quila or Golden Fort. The fort is located in the middle of the sandy expanse of the Thar desert, on Trikuta hill.

LAKE GADISAR

Another place that deserves a visit is the Gadisar Lake. A place of peace and tranquility that catches you for a moment.

It is an artificial lake. This lake was created to supply water to farmers in the area, which increasingly demanded more. Currently this lake is not used to supply water to the population

Thus, this small reserve of water acquired a special importance among the population and little by little the temples were built.

Rowboats and pedals are available to enjoy a short walk on the lake.

We were lucky to find an Indian wedding. Of course, it’s very different from here. They were in a procession of music and colours for their clothes, dancing on the street all the guests with the couple, inviting everyone with whom they crossed.

Girls, I must advise you that if you find a wedding and you feel like dancing, do not join the group of men. I did it, and in my life I’ve felt such harassment. The hands touched me all over my body. You must bear in mind that in India sex is a taboo subject.

UDAIPUR the magic city

Udaipur is located at the foot of the Aravalle mountains. And it is located south of Rajasthan. Known as the “City of lakes” or the “Venice of the East” because there are several lakes around it, including Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Udai Sagar and Swarup Sagar.

Lake Pichola is the largest of these and is located in the heart of the city. Between 1743 and 1746 was built on this lake, on the islet called Jag Niwas, the royal summer palace, Jag Niwas or Lake Palace, which now houses a luxurious hotel.

Udaipur is a beautiful city. It’s between lakes and green hills. It’s nothing to do with the other cities of Rajastan in which he had been.

Walking among its streets, on the shores of the lake, life here is so calm to be a city of India.

A beautiful place to see is the City Palace by the lake, Lake Pichola. I recommend that you take a boat trip on the lake. It is a magnificent experience that allows you to see the Jag Mandir up close.

Jodhpur, the blue city

Jodhpur is the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan. It is located in the Thar desert. Popular tourist destination for its many palaces, forts and temples. It is kn

houses are painted under the fort of Mehrangarh. Formerly only the Brahmins painted their houses blue, but the custom was extended thanks also to the popular belief of the locals that they scared away the insects from their homes.

Jodhpur, it’s the blue city. I must admit that of my entire trip, it is the place that I recommend the least. Maybe because of my experience or because of the expectations I had with the blue city. But ultimately Jodhpur did not seduce me. I found a messy, dirty, dusty city. In fact, all cities in India, but each of them knew how to conquer me, Jodhpur I must say no.

We visited the Clock Tower, which you can find walking around the city. And hire a Tuk Tuk to take us to the Fortress of Mehrangarth, because I had read that having a beer from there at sunset is priceless.

Well, first of all the nice driver of the Tuk Tuk not to go around and climb up, left us at the foot of the mountain of the fortress, where a road with a steep slope began. When we reached the top they were closing and you could not enter the fort, so goodbye to the beer.

THE FORTRESS OF MEHRANGARH

It is one of the most majestic forts in India. The walls of the fort have a height of 36 m by 21 m wide. In addition, its walls not only retain a part of the original canyons excellently preserved, but also an impressive view over the city.

PÚSHKAR a town that falls in love

The locality of Pushkar is located northwest of Ajmer and is one of the five dhams (sacred places of pilgrimage for devout Hinduists). A Pushkar is also known as Tirtha Rash (‘the king of the places of pilgrimage’) and is a place frequented by foreign tourists.

Pushkar is one of the oldest cities in India. Seated on the shores of the lake of Pushkar.

It welcomes infinity of temples. Most are not very old since many were destroyed during the conquests of the territory by the Muslims.

I have not been in a more spiritual place than Pushkar. It does not matter if you do meditation or not, whether you are spiritual or not, just walk around the lake and you will feel what I mean.

This little village is a jewel, quiet, beautiful, with shops, restaurants, massages…

What can I say about Pushkar more than pure love!

It is small and does not have as much as cities, but it is just and essential to feel at home.

From here you can make excursions to the temples that are on top of the mountains that surround it.

It is one of the places I recommend!

JAIPUR a city of contrasts

Jaipur, also known as The Pink City, is the capital of the state of Rajasthan in India. It has an area of 484.6 km2 and a population of 3.073 million (2011).

The city was built in pink stucco to imitate the sandstone. The pink city, they call the old town built by Jai Singh II. All the historic buildings are painted a pink salmon colour that in Rayastán is the colour of luck.

The city is symmetrical, with a very rational geometric layout. It is surrounded by a crenelated wall that has ten gates. It is divided into nine quadrants of those nine quadrants. Two are dedicated to the palatial complex with the Chandra Mahal or Palace of the Moon, inside the City Palace; the Hawa Mahal or Palace of the Winds and the Jantar Mantar or observatory of Jai Singh; the other seven are occupied by the people.

The best way to get to know the cities, wherever they may be, is to walk, walk between streets, alleys and avenues. And Jaipur has a lot to see, especially if you like jewellery. This time instead of taking a Tuk Tuk for the whole day, we did it only for long distances. Walking through the city and without thinking we hit the Hawa Mahal.

HAWA MAHAL

The Hawa Mahal (‘Palace of the Winds’) is a palace built by the Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It was part of the City Palace of Jaipur. It served as an extension of the zenana or chamber of women destined for the harem. The original function of the building was to allow real women to observe the daily life of the streets of the city without being seen.

JAL MAHAL (Water Palace)

On the other hand, we use Tuk Tuk to go to the Jal Mahal, a haven of peace. Jal Mahal (Water Palace) is a building located in the middle of the lake of Man Sagar.

The lake fills up during the rains and the palace is only accessible by boat. Currently the lake is polluted and the palace uninhabited, without maintenance and cannot be visited. It’s highly recommended to get out of the bustle of the city.

FORT AMBER

Another place I liked a lot was Fort Amber. The Tuk Tuk themselves take you there.

Amber Fort is a palatial complex located in Amber, 11 km from Jaipur. The building that is currently known as Amber Fort was initially a palatial complex within the original Amber fort that is now known as Jaigarh Fort.

Today, you can climb the fort from the base of the hill. During the walk, you can admire the beautiful views of Jaipur, Lake Maotha and the original city wall. Archaeological excavations have shown that the palace-fortress is built on the ruins of a temple in the sun of the year 955.

It is an incredible place to really get an idea of how people lived at that time. They’re imprisoned in their palaces for fear of betrayal. Here you have the opportunity to climb walking or elephant. I urge you; leave the animals alone, if there is no demand, there will be no offer.
