Locations:
NATURAL SPACES
Cap de Creus Natural Park.
It is one of the most important natural areas of Catalonia. It is located in the most eastern point of the entire Iberian Peninsula.
The space, both terrestrial and maritime, of the park covers 13,886 hectares and receives 435,000 visitors each year. The strong winds that cross the zone, especially the tramuntana, and the waves have been shaping this part of the coast, forming a very abrupt profile. And all the territory we found sparse vegetation but a very rich fauna.
Natural Park of Els Aiguamolls de l’Empordà.
It is a set of marshes generated at the end of the course of the Muga and Fluvià rivers. Since October 1983, it has been considered a Natural Interest Site. The Park has an extension of approximately 4730 hectares, of which 825 are a strictly protected integral natural reserve. Its main interest lies in the richness of the ornithological flora and fauna, especially migratory.
Illes Medes
Small archipelago, are practically the only islands of the coast of Catalonia and are formed by the elevations of the mountain range of Montgrí. There are a total of seven islets, with rocky bottoms and underwater caves that make it a perfect place to practice scuba diving. The zone is considered a reserve for its rich ecosystem, favoured by its proximity to the mouth of the River Ter.
Ses Negres
The Ses Negres Marina Reserve is located in Begur, right in the centre of the Costa Brava. It extends along 1300 meters of coastline, between the coves of Sa Riera and Aiguafreda. It presents a total area of 80 ha, which includes the cliffs that surround the Begur Mountains.
Botanical Gardens.
In the area of the Costa Brava, there are several botanical gardens that exhibit both local plant diversity and tropical species, not native to the area. The gardens of Cap Roig, the historic park of the Castle of Perelada in 1877, Santa Clotilde in Lloret de Mar. Botanical Garden Marimurtra in Blanes and Botanical Garden Pinya de Rosa also located in the municipality of Blanes are the most important in the region.
Coves and Beaches
The beaches of the Costa Brava are characterized by the quality of its waters. Many of these have been attributed the Blue Flag, an unmistakable symbol of clean water and free of contamination. Another feature of the Costa Brava is the small coves or hidden beaches, surrounded by vegetation, due to the erosion of the sea on the cliffs. Some are only accessible from the sea and many others can only be reached by coastal roads that run along the coast in some municipalities, the Camino de Ronda.
Gastronomy
At the beginning of the 21st century, the regions of Girona have become one of the main centers of gastronomic pilgrimage in the world. In fact, it is no secret that the center of avant-garde cuisine is located in the Cap de Creus on the northern stretch of the Costa Brava, where El Bulli de Ferrán Adriá (in Cala Montjoi) has created a new school.
The regions of Girona have always been a reference of good cuisine: avant-garde cuisine could not have arisen without historical background, without local products, without the raw materials of the region from its agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, production of olives, livestock, fishing, etc.
